The only thing that could make you guys more wonderful is hiring me. I see that you're working on a Spanish language site. If you decide to make a Japanese one, I will have to think of unique ways to impress you into taking me in. One day my Chinese (and Spanish) will be good enough but right now all I have to work with is my Japanese. I wish you lots of success but please don't ever become a money grubbing corporate monster! :-D

Hello, I am unable to get the fix for this lesson through iTunes.I do not wish anyone to be greedy, but I hope that you make boat loads of money, are prosperous, anduse the income you make to fulfill your wildest dreams and goals. @trevelyan,sounds like a bit behind times but i was shown in windows7 that selecting a sentence in 'hanyu' and clicking tranlator you get a rough translation. that would be a great help to understand discussions. do you know if there's an app in Itunes that would give that functionality

@richard,If you're reading in the browser (Firefox or Chrome), you might want to try our browser plugin. Once you enable it (right-click menu) it will provide a popup dictionary with definitions for any recognized words on the page:http://popupchinese.com/chinese/pluginWith at least the Firefox version (maybe also the Chrome version). Highlighting relatively lengthy text and hitting "G" will automatically submit the text to Google translate, opening the translation in a new window.Best,--david

David, ya now i remember it was Google translate i saw being usedi'm using default Safari on my mac mini. so, what you are saying is i would need to download another browser to get a plugin. nothing available in Safari correct?feel i'm missing a lot not able to understand most discussions

@richard,We don't currently have a plugin for Safari, so if you want to use one of our popup plugins, then - yes - you'll have to switch to either Firefox or Chrome. FWIW, we recommend Firefox since the plugin will be customized to your account and integrated with our vocab list functionality (just hit "A" when a popup is visible to add the word to your vocabulary list. It is also read/write, so you can add new words as you run into them.Best,--david

@David, intead of ggTranslate i've set my own way to translate and pinyinize selected comments(e.g.echo's answers) in comments(discussions). Mac iOS lion has many uses of drag and drop and 4corner min. for side by side windows so i set up one window(lesson) and a new window with popup character converter in reference tools. i often use annotate also.for me(at this time without 'hanyu' knowledge) to study a few banter sentence structure it works

I still don't feel too comfortable about questions. In 谁让你进来的, is the 的 necessary and if so, why? I thought a 的 needed a 是, so something like 谁是让你进来的, is this wrong? Also, could you have a 了 there? 谁让了你进来(的)? Sorry for the many questions. Would like to get to the bottom of this.

dainichi,It should be （是）谁让你进来的. Lots of times it is acceptable to drop the first 是, but not to drop the last 的. Maybe someone can correct me, but I don't think it is possible to put 让 in the past like that. It's like thinking or feeling and is almost always in the present aspect, even when used to describe past states of being.
