"You can read that?" Eric put down his paper and stared with incredulity at his cousin, who was finishing off the Hong Kong tabloids. "It's not that difficult," Jason shrugged, holding up the front page. In question #3: 中国是一个古老____年轻的国家。 Why can't the answer be 又 (both ancient and young)?

@winslowtt,
Here we can use既……又 actually. You are right, if we use adj.+又+adj., it means "both...and...", however, when we use 又, we should not put two opposite words in the structure, also we should put some other thing(e.g.adverbs) together with the adjectives.
For instance:
他很高大又很强壮。
她很漂亮又很聪明。
When we use 又……又,既……又 or 而,we can use opposite words:
她又想去又不想去,所以决定不了。
中国的文化既年轻又古老。
我既高兴又难过。
英国是一个古老而年轻的国家。
